The Sweet Kiss Mother of God is one of those icons that survived the Iconoclasm. It belonged to Victoria, the wife of the iconoclast Symeon, who, in order not to surrender it, threw it into the sea. The icon floated upright and traveled until it reached the Monastery of Philotheou. There, it was found by an abbot of the Monastery, after a dream he had in which the Theotokos guided him to the spot on the shore where holy water was gushing forth.
