Saint Artemius was one of the great military saints of the Orthodox Church. He was distinguished for his bravery and his faith in Christ. When Julian the Apostate renounced the faith and returned to paganism, Artemius opposed his efforts to restore idol worship and suffered persecution due to his unwavering Christian faith. He was arrested and subjected to severe tortures, which he endured with great fortitude and courage. Ultimately, he was martyred by beheading.

Saint Artemius is considered the patron saint of soldiers and the sick, especially those suffering from hernias and other ailments.
