According to Hesiod’s “Theogony” (lines 188-200), Aphrodite was born from the semen of Uranus, which fell into the sea. The white foam that was created first passed by Cythera and then, with the help of Zephyrus, reached the shores of Cyprus. There, she was welcomed by the Horae, who adorned her head with a crown and led her to Olympus before the gods, who were left speechless at the sight of her beauty.
